OpenAthens offers important advantages for you such as increased security, reducing service interruptions, allowing access to e-resources across library databases and publisher websites with just one login and access from outside the GSC network to many e/resources.
For most resources, no. OpenAthens will recognise that you are in the building or using your workstation at home and will automatically log you in. However, there are some resources that may require a login.
The best solution is to create a new bookmark:
It is always a good idea to have the Pocker eLibrary in your bookmarks bar.
Sometimes you will find resources by browsing the web that are part of the Library's collections. When visiting a publisher website that supports OpenAthens, you should see an OpenAthens login link and form. The form will ask you to identify your home institution and search for the Council of the European Union. From there, log in using your credentials. If the Council Library subscribes to the resource, you should be given access.
The login link or screen may differ by publisher's website. If you have problems please contact the Library
OpenAthens uses cookies to remember your device’s IP address. If you change web browsers or devices (i.e. from Firefox to Chrome or from a laptop to a mobile) you will be asked to log in again.
The Council Library has configured OpenAthens to send the minimum information to the publishers but in a limited number of cases, your professional mail may be released. We are working with the publishers to avoid that and to anonymise the whole process.
Please contact the Council Library and we will be happy to help you: library@consilium.europa.eu
