EU-Japan relations

The European Union and Japan have a deep and dynamic relationship. Japan is the EU’s closest strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region. The signing of an EU-Japan Strategic Partnership Agreement in July 2018 strengthened their already close relationship.

Their strategic partnership is based on longstanding cooperation, shared values and principles, including democracy, the rule of law, human rights, good governance, multilateralism and open market economies.

The EU and Japan also concluded an Economic Partnership Agreement which entered into force on 1 February 2019. This, together with the more general Strategic Partnership, has become the cornerstone of an enhanced relationship between the EU and Japan.

This Library Guide provides access to relevant and authoritative information and resources on the relationship between the EU and Japan. This includes books, articles, databases, websites, podcasts, videos and EU publications.
