Certes le Liban accueille 1,2 million de réfugiés syriens, la Jordanie 650 000, l’Égypte 132 375 et la Turquie 1,9 million. Mais la tragédie syrienne touche fort peu le Maghreb, pas du tout les pays du Golfe et en définitive pratiquement pas la Ligue arabe. Ceci dans le même temps où l’Europe vient au secours d’Arabes musulmans maltraités, torturés et fuyant des guerres féroces. En somme, la notion d’Oumma avec ses deux dimensions linguistique (arabophonie) et religieuse (Islam) a explosé et laisse du coup le champ libre non seulement au repli égoïste et au mépris des peuples de même origine, mais aussi, ce qui est pire encore, à une autre conception de la « communauté des croyants », celle d’un radicalisme haineux s’appropriant l’Islam.
