The EU and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have been dialogue partners since 1977. Following the 23rd EU-ASEAN Ministerial meeting on 1 December 2020, the EU and ASEAN opened a new chapter in their longstanding relationship by becoming Strategic Partners.
ASEAN brings together ten Southeast Asian states – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – into one entity. These countries are located in the Indo-Pacific region. Whereas EU member states have pooled their sovereignty to some extent, ASEAN is an intergovernmental organisation with much less integration.
This Library Guide provides access to relevant and authoritative information and resources on the relationship between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. This includes books, articles, databases, websites, podcasts, videos and EU publications.
