World Book Day 2022 takes place in the shadow of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. To provide insights into the Ukrainian people and highlight the richness of their culture, the Council Library has decided to celebrate World Book Day by showcasing a selection of Ukrainian literary gems. The books were chosen by trainees at the Council and have been compiled into a Library Guide

Friday 23 April marks World Book Day. Do you want to use the occasion to broaden your horizon with literature from all over Europe? Do you want to have fun while picking your book? Then the Council Library may have something for you! Many of our Council trainees have selected a colourful mixture of books that will help your mind wander through both space and time. You might want to read about a medieval noblewoman defying the wishes of her family and going her own way. Or maybe you could read about bustling turn-of-the-century Paris. Or perhaps the peaceful countryside is more to your taste (with a hint of backstabbing intrigue, of course). You could even experience adventures on the sea.

Reading is more vital than ever during this COVID-19 period; people can travel through their imaginations and discover new worlds. Reading can inspire creativity and help keep minds sharp during isolation. The Council Library collaborated with the Croatian Presidency of the Council of EU to help you discover the literary world of Croatia.

A video for World Book and Copyright Day 2019. To mark this special day, a group of trainees from the Council of the EU have created a video showing six trainees talking about their favourite books by European authors.

World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.
UNESCO’s theme for 2023 - Indigenous Languages!
