Welcome to the Library Guide on EU-NATO cooperation

The EU ensures the protection of its citizens in Europe and beyond, through cooperation with NATO, thanks to the development of a broad range of tools: EU-NATO cooperation

On 10 January 2023, the EU and NATO signed a joint declaration in Brussels: they decided to expand and deepen their cooperation on areas such as:

  • the growing geostrategic competition
  • resilience and the protection of critical infrastructure
  • emerging and disruptive technologies
  • space
  • the security implications of climate change
  • foreign information manipulation and interference

"The transatlantic relationship and EU-NATO cooperation, in full respect of the principles set out in the Treaties and those agreed by the European Council, including the principles of inclusiveness, reciprocity and decision-making autonomy of the EU, are key to our overall security."  (Source: Informal meeting of the Heads of State or Government -  Versailles Declaration, 10 and 11 March 2022)
